Bio
Born in Barcelona in 1993, Bernat Català has devoted his life to music, the piano and teaching and mentoring his young piano students.
After obtaining his bachelor's degree from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), he continued his musical training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music in London, thanks to the support of the Pedro i Pons Foundation, the Güell Foundation and the Royal Academy of Music.
In 2017, his intrepid spirit brought him to Switzerland to train in music pedagogy at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève.
Numerous teachers and mentors have strongly influenced and accompanied him throughout his musical studies, including Maria Jesús Crespo, Peter Bithel, Diana Ketler, Luiz de Moura Castro and Sylviane Deferne.
He has performed as a soloist in venues such as Palau de la Música (Barcelona) and the Fundación Juan March (Madrid), and is a regular guest at festivals and concert seasons in Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy and the UK.
He has won several prizes in national and international competitions, most recently 1st prize in the Jeunesses Musicales de Catalonia competition (Spain), 3rd prize in the Sobrio Festival competition (Switzerland) and the Prix Adoplhe Neumann awarded by the City of Geneva (Switzerland).
He is a member of the Caravaggio Piano Quartet, with which he has won the Burri Prize at the Festival of Nations (Italy) and the prize of the Italian Music Critics Association. Bernat Català also collaborates with saxophonist Antonio Sola Corpas, performing pieces from the chamber music repertoire arranged for saxophone and piano.
After studying classical harmony, fugue and counterpoint with composers Xavier Boliart and Alessandro Timossi in London, he developed a great passion for composition. His creative output includes several works for solo piano as well as for various chamber music ensembles. He has also composed a cantata for children's choir, premiered in 2015.
Bernat Català is currently based in Switzerland, where he combines his solo career with chamber music as well as teaching piano.
